About Chris, sort of

This is me

This is really me.

I’m supposed to talk about myself here–the software tells me so.

I’m Chris, the guy who always wears suspenders. I’ve been playing bridge since I was 18, and hope to learn how any day now.

I’m pushing up on 5000 points, which is what you get if you win 100 points a year for 50 years. Or 10 points a year for 500 years, which is what it often feels like. Not good, just stubborn as hell.

They got me to write the Unit column for the Contract Bridge Forum by promising me a puppy, which nobody has delivered on yet.

I decided to write a blog because I can’t stand writing a column that will be published in 3 or 4 weeks–there isn’t any news in it, only old. The blog I can keep fresh and enjoy talking about what is happening when it happens. And since it isn’t in the league paper or on the unit website, I can say any damned thing I want without worrying about making some brass hat cranky.

  1. Hi Chris,

I love your blog! I want to report that Carroll Brooks & Marj Russell came in 3rd in the Thus/Fri Compact KO with teammates Bob Chase & Alan Bostrom. We won the Friday Compact KO with teammates Elizabeth Sachs & Desi Soto, winning in the finals by a mere 76 IMPs (76-0)!

  2. Is that U? That is the cutest pic. It must be the software? A puppy would be cuter tho. PS: Why NOT open that 13 pt. hand? Aren’t the plenty of times it would work out well?

  5. Hi Chris,

We received a request from Urbanspoon user “Chris Pisarra” claiming that they are the author of Totally, completely, absolutely, unequivocally unofficial blog. It sounds like you, but I’m writing to verify that this is the case and that you want to allow Chris Pisarra to manage your blog on Urbanspoon.

You can visit the Urbanspoon page for Totally, completely, absolutely, unequivocally unofficial blog here:

  6. Hi Chris–

I’m working with a start-up for food bloggers in Southern California called Tabelog (www.tabelog.us). They’re a subsidiary of the largest company in Japan Tabelog.com (similar to Yelp here in the US).

We’re bringing their annual restaurant awards to the US that are judged solely by a panel of local food bloggers (all online). The winning restaurants get a framed 2014 award and the food bloggers get an “official judge” icon/etc and related PR for their blog. We’re looking for bloggers from the Southern California area to invite as an official judge. Is this something that you would be interested in?

    Thanks in advance!
    Brock

  7. Chris: I have been following your blog for sometime. Very good! To jog your memory, I played bridge in Northern Cal at Pleasant Hill ( I lived in Lafayette) and served on the unit board for a while with both you and Mike Bandler. I played a lot with Tom Jacobson and Manfred Michlmayr. I now live in New Orleans where I have resumed play after a lay off of 12 years (no bridge from 1994 until 2006).

Please look into comming to New Orleans for our Nationals next spring. With your love of food and bridge, it would be the perfect fit. Many great restaurants within walking distance of the playing area. I can promise you a good time!! Bring everyone from the Bay Area!!!!
